Under the Migration Act 1958, applications may be decided on the basis of available information without requesting further documentation. It is therefore important that applicants ensure that applications are as complete as possible and all supporting documentation is provided at the time of visa application lodgement.
All forms must be completed in English, and documentation provided in a language other than English must be accompanied by an English language translation. All documentation must be originals or certified or notarised copies (as indicated).
AFTER YOUR APPLICATION IS LODGED, IF ANY OF THE INFORMATION YOU PROVIDED CHANGES, YOU SHOULD NOTIFY AUSTRALIAN VISA OFFICE IN WRITING. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN AN ASSESSMENT OF YOUR APPLICATION BASED ON OUT OF DATE INFORMATION.
Processing Times
We suggest that you lodge an application as soon as you have all relevant documentation and at least a minimum of 12 weeks prior to your course commencement date.
All applications are assessed in order of receipt. however, since 23 July, priority has been given to those applications where courses of study are commencing in the month of August.
The amount of time taken to finalise individual applications may vary significantly depending on processing requirements.

Applicants with family unit members accompanying them to Australia:

Evidence of the relationship between the applicant and all family unit members (eg birth certificate, marriage certificate etc);

If any family unit members are 5 - 17 years of age (inclusive) and will live with the applicant in Australia, documentation confirming their enrolment in an Australian school.
Family in India of student visa holders already in Australia:
For ALL visa applications by a spouse or dependent child of a student visa holder already in Australia, the following additional documents MUST be provided:

Original letter from the education provider with whom the student is enrolled stating
- the course being studied;
- the duration of that course and anticipated completion date;
- whether the student is satisfying course requirements;
- for non-government post-secondary courses and ELICOS (only), the student’s attendance record; -
Marriage certificate (original and a photocopy);

Form 919 – Student Dependent Nomination (from your sponsor who is currently pursuing education in Australia);

Certified copy of ALL pages of your sponsor’s passport, including page with valid Australian student visa. The copy must be certified by a Justice of the Peace in Australia. Certified fax copies are not acceptable;

A statement of history of relationship from you and your spouse. Specify if it was an arranged marriage;

Education documents for previous course(s) of study
The applicant must provide:

School certificate showing successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent or,

If they have a COE for a Foundation Course, successful completion of Year 11 or equivalent.

Applicants are also required to submit a Statement of purpose giving details of why they opted to study this course in Australia.
Financial requirements

Evidence that the applicant has sufficient funds to meet course fees, living costs and school costs for their expected stay in Australia.The applicant must provide evidence of funds for all family unit members, even if they are not going to Australia as per legislative requirements for each subclass
Note: Applicants who are undertaking a course(s) of less than 12 months duration, or who are sponsored by the government of a foreign country, a multilateral agency, the Commonwealth Government, or the government of a State or Territory, and whose family members are not accompanying them to Australia, are only required to demonstrate access to sufficient funds to support these family members in their home country.

School costs will be calculated on a proportional basis if the applicant's child turns 5 years of age during their stay in Australia.
The applicant must provide at least one of the following:
-
Relevant bank account statements (and tax returns, if applicable) held by the applicant, or an acceptable individual providing financial support to them, for the last 3-6 months prior to visa application(depending on subclass);
-
Evidence of a loan from a financial institution made to (and held in the name of) the applicant, or an acceptable individual providing financial support to them;
-
Evidence of a loan from the government of the applicant's home country;
-
Evidence of financial support from the Commonwealth Government, or the government of a State or Territory;
-
Evidence of financial support from the applicant's Australian education provider, including the amount of financial support being provided;
-
Evidence of financialsupport from the applicant's employer indicating the level of support being provided and details of the applicant's background, role within the corporation and employment training or retraining needs. Financial support from an employer will only be acceptable if the company has been verified by a DIAC office to be operating in the international arena;
-
Evidence of financial support from the government of a foreign country, or a provincial or state government of a foreign country that has the written support of the national government of that foreign country, including the amount of financial support being provided;
-
Evidence of financial support from an organisation gazetted by the Minister* or a multilateral agency**, including the amount of financial support being provided.
Note: When calculating sufficient funds, non-cash assets may not be used unless they have either been liquidated (and held as a money deposit) and held for required period or used as collateral to secure a loan.
* An organisation gazetted by the Minister for the purposes of the definition "funds from an acceptable source": ie Rotary International, The National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the Ford Foundation.
** A multilateral agency - an agency or organisation in which at least 3 countries participate: eg The UN, World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
The applicant must also provide:
-
Evidence of income AND evidence of relationship of person(s) providing financial support .
If the applicant is proposing to undertake a course, or package of courses, of less than 10 months duration, they will be subject to a no further stay condition. This condition will prevent the applicant from applying for a further visa (other than a Protection visa, Student visa with permission to work or a Graduate-Skilled visa) while they remain in Australia. However, the condition may not be applied to the visa if the applicant provides evidence of the following:

Additional funds for living costs for themself and their family unit members for another 12 months;
-
Additional funds for school costs for all of the applicant's school-aged children for another 12 months;
-
An additional $12,000. This is a notional allowance for future tuition fees.
The above funds must be in addition to those funds already outlined above. The applicant must also provide evidence, as described above, for these funds. The applicant must provide evidence of additional funds for their family unit members even if they are not going to Australia.
If the applicant does not wish to provide evidence of these additional funds, they may still meet the requirements for the grant of a Student visa. However any visa granted will be subject to the no further stay condition 8534.
